Hello, I'm Donna Kilday. I'm so glad you've taken a moment to learn a bit more about me and my journey to becoming a counsellor. I've always been drawn to helping others. Over the years, I've worked with many not-for-profit organisations, supporting families through tough times. This work has taught me so much about how people relate to each other and the power of kindness.
My career has been varied and rewarding. I worked in dementia support which taught me the importance of patience and just being there for someone. Later, as a carer support navigator with Southend Carers, I helped adult carers and parents of children with special needs. I saw firsthand how strong carers are and how much they need support too.
For over five years, I volunteered at my local Mind charity in various roles, including as a qualified counsellor. I also counselled parents at my local Early Help Family Support Service while I was training.
Throughout my career, I've provided information, advice, and support to all sorts of people - unpaid carers, parents of children with special needs and disabilities, and more. I've done this for local and national organisations, including Goldsmiths College (University of London), SENDIASS, and the National Deaf Children's Society.
All these experiences have shaped how I work as a counsellor. They've shown me how important it is to listen without judging, see each person as unique, and give people a safe place to talk about their feelings.
I've also completed additional training courses in:
I'm a registered member of the BACP and an accredited member of the NCPS. These memberships reflect my commitment to maintaining high professional standards and ethical practice.
I'm also proud to be an RNIB Accredited Sight Loss Counsellor. This specialised training allows me to offer tailored support to those experiencing vision-related challenges, ensuring I can provide sensitive and informed counselling to this community.
